850 seats into a 240?

Post by swingline »

Has anyone managed to do this? I could make a bracket to bolt the seat to and then bolt the bracket to the car but what about the electrical? I don't care so much about the seat warmers but I want the memory and the controls to work. Wouldn't it be just like wiring in a stereo from scratch from the fuse box?

I know there are airbag and seat belt wires in the harness but if they are left disconnected would it matter in a 240?

Anything is possible but the amount of work involved may make it impractible. The over-riding factor in any modification has to be safety. Bolting brackets is not as good as welding them.

Not really because there are major differences in the fuse boxes. The power seats in the 850 are not covered by normal fuses. They are protected by 2 x 30amp circuit breakers which you will not find in the 240 fuse box. Therefore, you would need to rig up a separate protection circuit.

Apart from the wires for the airbags and seat belts you would also have to ignore the wires for the diagnostic system.

As I said anything is possible.....

Good point about the safety end of it and depending on the bracket it may need to be welded, I like to weld so its not a problem. I don't like wiring as much but i could put in a couple circuits without going totally nuts over it.

What got me thinking about this is a 850 I saw at the salvage yard last week. It had black leather seats that were mint. The office said they would sell them for $50 each. I like the seats in the 240 but these were really nice. I am going to have to measure them to see if they will fit. I'm unsure if they will look right inside the car though?
