Coolant level drops a little over a month, and I heard hissing noise from expansion cap when engine is off. I'd imagine the cap is on its way out?
Is it OK to mix Volvo's coolant with the ubiquitous Prestone green/yellow coolant?
On thermostat, which temperature type does the car use? Is 87C or 92C ok?

That is a sign that the cap is failing.
Have you read the pinned topic about the caps? Try to get one of the green caps as they are so much better. FCPGroton does stock them.
I don't like mixing coolants but I don't use either of those anyway. I have used Bluecol for 47 years and it has never let me down yet. I don't know if it is available in the US.
The thermostat for your car starts to open at 87 and is fully open at 92. Again, FCPGroton stocks them.
Bill.
