2001 V70 Rear View Mirror

Post by anladoc »

Good morning.

I have what I assume is an auto-dimming rear view mirror in my V70 (it has the sensors), but it does not auto-dim. I checked the manual for fuse placement, but it doesn't seem to have one assigned to it.

I won't be terribly disappointed if it never works, but if its a quick/easy fix, I'd like to give it a try.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If it is an auto-dim (i.e. it doesn't have the flip at the bottom to change the angle) and it's not dimming, the electrochromic mirror itself has failed. If you're adventurous, you can change the glass: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... hp?t=16275 If you're less adventurous, it's $475 from the dealer + 1 hour labor for a "UEM reload" (the mirror contains the Upper Electronics Module and requires a software download as they are used in many different cars [S80, V70, S60, later S40s and V50s...]--each with different software systems and bus configurations).

I was looking at that interesting how-to and I noticed a couple of fuses in the top of the mirror mount. Maybe those are the fuses you are looking for.

Before you do all that I would have the dealer reset it and set it to full dark.
It may have "lost" its programming

Thank you for your comments.

Though the mirror clearly has the auto-dim sensors, it DOES also have the angle flip lever.

Not too worried about it.

If it has a manual flip it does NOT have a dark sensor
