New owner of a 2001 V70 T5 with 84K miles

Post by Doug S »

New to Matthew's Volvo Site and a new owner of my first Volvo, a well maintained 2001 V70 T5. I know the 2001 V70s have a bad reputation and I considered this before buying. A recently replaced transmission (at the dealer) and full service records convinced me the car was worth looking at and later buying. It's a one owner car and I purchased the car from the owner.

So far I really enjoy driving and owning the car, it has good power, handles and rides well and it's the nicest car I've ever owned but I can understand why the previous owner was willing to sell it. The transmission was replaced about year ago (at great expense) and from the service records there have also been numerous recent problems with the alarm going off for no reason, steering wheel rubbing noise when turning, the remotes not working and a persistent tailgate open message (while closed). I did find and correct the problem with the alarm going off and tailgate message, it was broken wires in the tailgate hinge area but the remotes are still unpredictable. Both remotes have new batteries and work fine for days then both stop working at the same time, then sometime later they both start working again. Anyone else have this problem with the remotes or know of it? I've heard from another forum it is likely the rear view mirror (UEM) and to have the car check for DTCs. I've also read the alarm siren can also cause this type of problem and my siren does not work, flashing lights but no sound when its activated.

Nice car for the price though and I think once I work through the current problems it will be very good car and I'll have it for years to come. It was very well maintained and looks almost like new inside and out.

I do plan on taking the car and having it checked for any trouble codes but thought I would try and get a better understanding of what may be causing the problem.

Welcome to MVS!
You'll find that we're a kind and helpful bunch.
Unfortunately, although I have a later model V70 I have not experienced the same problems that your car has. Hopefully someone who has will pitch in and help you here.
