My 850

Post by matthew1 »

I have a '97 850 T5 and I love it.

It's got a K&N filter, an OMP strut brace and an R model chin spoiler. The spoiler came on it from the factory. Strange but true. That probably had something to do with the car going to my dad's friend who was Volvo Construction North American president at the time. It was his company car (true story).

It was first off the assembly line that year, from what my dad told me that Mr. Egan (original owner) told him.

It has 91k miles, and it's never been faster. Now that the temperatures are getting cooler, the car absolutely flies. Off the line it's a dog, but it will go from 30 mph to 100 so fast it makes my head spin around. Severely good higher RPM thrust.

I've had it since 2000, and ran Mobil 1 in it since then. I put Lucas fuel system/anti-carbon treatment in it every 2nd fill up.

Hey Matthew,

Have you checked more carefully to see if Mr Egan had any other "special" parts installed on/inside your car besides the R spoiler? :D

That is a special car.

I was looking to get a newer car to replace my '96 850T, and opted for a saab 95 wagon, I also had my eye on an '01 T5 v70. Oh what a mistake I made. Volvo is the best engineered, comfortable, powerfull reliable, practical, easiest to work on out there. Don't ever doubt the satisfaction your volvo gives you. Even if you have a bad car day. Ps. I sold my 205K Mile 850T wagon with all working options for $100 less than what i bought it for 60k miles ago.m I am an idiot.

All i can say is... ive owned ALOT of turbo cars in my days, and by far bar none, volvo is the best !! I love my 850 turbo. Personally, i dont think you can get a better bang for the buck. Its a stylish car you can chill and run around town in and a car you can kick-butt in. Dependability speaks for itself. I sold my first 850 turbo and went thru ALOT of turbo cars and ended right back with my volvo.

For someone who can turn a wrench, 1993-2000 850s and 70 models are outstanding values - IF you find a nice sample. If you can turn a wrench and spend an hour here reading about what to look out for, you should be able to find a good sample without much trouble.

For around $2000-5000, you can get a fast, safe, comfortable, easy-to-work-on, good-looking car. It's the best secret in the automotive world.
