What's up with "DISC" on the instrument panel?

Post by dimvolvo »

Hi, I have 850 1993 and my Dear V comes with the trip computer option. Recently I got "dISC" on my display instead of information. I removed the panel cover and checked the switch - all cables look ok and I suspect dISC means disconnected and it means cables have no connection at some other place.
1. Am I right?
2. It's can be disconnection at dashboard, isn't it?
3. It's can be bad wires somewhere between this two points because somebody did some el. work for me recently.
I'm not sure I can find the source of the problem and I really don't like to have this word on the display, my wife is just crazy about it, so I tried to disconnect switch but dISC error still on the display. I tried to disconnect battery for 15 minutes but it didn't help.
4. Is there any chance to delete this dISC from my display? Does it help If I disconnect switch wires at the dashboard? How can I find them if it's the solution?
5.

I've found that a bad ignition tumbler can cause this...try wiggling your key to see if it goes away.

It's usually just a dirty switch contact.
Rotate the knob back and forth rather rapidly about 20 times, that should clear it up!

I did everything without result so now I'm looking for the possibility to disconnect this computer at all to prevent appearing "dISC" on display.

Just buy a new dash switch if it won't "clean"

So it shows DISC no matter where the switch is?

As I recall there are two cables that go to it, one from the instrument cluster which is a heavy duty ribbon cable and the other is from the switch on the dash. Disconnect both and it should be dead. At the same time you may find that one or the other is partially disconnected already and all you need to do is plug it back in.
