2000 S40 seatbelt problem

The driver seat belt has locked up, and cannot get it to extend. Anybody else had this problem?

Are you saying it's locked in the latch or inside the post so it won't extract across your chest? If the latter is the case, you'll probably have to take the cover off of the post and replace the tensioner. Be careful as if you try to do this yourself it could set an airbag code which your dealer will have to clear (he's the only one). Disconnect your battery for 20 minutes before checking it out...make sure you have your radio code because once power is off you'll have to enter it to enable your radio again.

it will not stretch across my chest. don't have to worry about the radio, i took that mess (huge am/fm/cass deck) and replaced it with XM radio and cd.

You'll still need to disconnect the battery- you don't want the airbag exploding on you out from the side of the seat (if your car has these).

my mechanic was able to fix it for me. not for sure what he did but its back to working like new again.

Hi!!! I have same problem on my volvo... Can You ask your mechanic how he did it. I'm living in LA and I went to dealer and many places, everyone said that they are not gonna fix it, just put new one (because they scare that if i will have car excedent and belt won't work well - they will have a problems)

checked with my mechanic and he put in a used one for me.
