What is the best we can hope for?

Post by Ozark Lee »

The scroll at the bottom of CNBC all day was that Ford is trying to dump Volvo to stay alive.

BMW has been rumored and I'm not happy about that.

Current parts price +125% doesn't look appealing to me.

My best hope was that Volvo would buy Volvo but from what I have seen on the tube is that Volvo delivered a sum total of 18 trucks last quarter - not a strong buying position.

Are we better of with Tata, or Chery?

From a prestige stand point I would like to see BMW, Porsche/VW, or Mercedes but at the same time I have had to buy their parts and that is not pretty from a wallet perspective.

Ain't it nice to be a read headed step child.

At the end of the day I'm thinking that the Matthew's Volvo Site Bank, with a couple of billion from the TARP, needs to buy the company - we promise we will pay it back!

18? They delivered ~22,000 trucks last month (Oct 2008). Don't forget that AB Volvo's business lines include Penta, Construction Equipment, Construction Equipment Rents, Aero (yes, it's profitable). Take a look at the truck sales figures: http://www.volvo.com/group/global/en-gb ... 1&sl=en-gb I actually find Renault as a more likely suitor than BMW, though don't rule out Tata.

Wow, that is fantastic - OK a 12% decline is not fantastic but that is much stronger than CNBC reported. They were saying 18 units which is BK territory.

Perhaps Volvo is an option. In my area they have several heavy truck service centers and dozens of Volvo Penta dealers but only one car dealership.

Renault - Hmmm as much as I hate to think of being associated with pig like Flavio Briatore it might be kinda cool if they launched a Volvo F-1 Team. From what I've seen from Carlos Ghosn that might work. My only fear there is that Bob Nardelli has been talking up a partnership with Renault over the last year or so.
