940GLE' 91 Automatic timing belt tensioner

Post by bobbyz »

Looks like my B234F has an auto timing belt tensioner.
Brickboard states that the tensioner is hydraulic.
Does it make use of engine oil pressure, or is it a self-contained sealed unit?

Brickboard says that the tensioner might leak and ruin the belts. That had me worried a bit. I wonder if there are seals on the tensioner that can be replaced, or if the whole tensioner can be replaced.

It is self contained and not repairable. Not only will an oil leak damage the belt but if it fails it will damage the engine as the B234F is an interference engine.
