how to identify 7 passenger wagon? (850/V70 3rd-row seat)

Post by grover lee »

I am interested in finding a volvo wagon that has the third seat?

In particular an 850 or 2000 V70...

Is there any way from looking at ads online to know if it seats 7?

Do all, most, or very few wagons have this?

Is it standard on some models?

Thanks for the help,

Grover

The owner will almost certainly list that in the ad. It's a valuable feature. Other than that, there's no way to tell without talking to the owner.

The third row seats are removable/installable in other 850s.

Thanks for the help.

You say that seats are installable in 850's.

Is it difficult? How would you go about it?

Would the same apply to 2000 V70 wagon?

I've never done it because I don't own one, but I think it's about a one hour job, no special tools or experience required. Just a backyard job.

Grover,

I do not have experience with the 850 or V70 wagon but I have removed a 3rd row seat from a 740 wagon. They are all similar in design. You will need a deep well metric socket, a friend (it is too bulky to try yourself) and a 12-pack (that is how I was conned into helping remove the seat). It took about 15 minutes to remove and I would guess about 30 to install. I have a friend that is doing the 5.0 v-8 conversion and he is trying to lighten the 740 as much as possible - he has dreams of a 13 second quarter mile in it.

if you look at pictures, (autotrader, e-bay) or if you are on a car lot after hours, you will be able to see seatbelts suspended from the ceiling along the sides and going through the floor of the rear cargo area. These are for the 3rd row passengers when the seat is flipped up.

Most don't but some do. Most people call it the "third row seat". Most sellers will be very upfront if it has it, as it is a desirable option.
