You don't - it is a power only antennae. If yours is not working the probable cause is a damaged or worn mast - it has happened way too often to many of us.

You would have to raise it first by putting power to the antenna thru your stereo and then disconnecting the power line to the antenna motor located in the rear fender behind the carpeting. If your antenna will not go up first check your fuse box to make sure you don't have blown the fuse, if power is not the issue you may have damaged the antenna mast "strip" which is just a strip of plastic with teeth. I replaced mine last year for less than $20 because the antenna wouldn't go up all the way and I was unable to get good reception. Good Luck

Years ago online, I ran across a how-to for a manual switch modification for this very idea. Thus, the mast would raise or lower via you clicking the dashboard switch, independently of the status of the radio -- on, off, tape/cd AM or FM.
