1984 240 dl blower motor not working, yet again.

Post by cincykid18 »

so i bought the car and the blower motor was bad, and not only was it bad but it had apparently been replaced by volvo once before, so thankfully i saved a few steps in the installation. suddenly today the blower motor shut off, and i managed to pull over and after sitting for a minute it came back on. however again this evening it turned itself off, and now it refuses to turn back on. i have already replaced the switch and the motor, however i was too lazy to use the wiring harness which was also included with the kit. is this the ultimate problem? could i have saved myself a lot of time and upset by replacing this the first time around?

if i replace this and the motor still doesnt start up, and the switch resistor and motor are all new, what is the next area which i should worry is dead

Have you checked the fuse? It may be making intermittent contact.
Check that the connectors on the switch have not started to come off.
Use an ohmmeter to check that the switch is working correctly.

What is included in the wire harness? Wires in this area do not normally give any trouble.

This is a god awful job as you are aware. I would get the wiring diagram for your car and turn blower on and see if you have power going to it and a proper ground before I did anything else. You can have power but without a ground she no worky. If you don't have power going to it she no worky either. Good luck. I wonder how much longer my blower will work I have 295,000 miles on my original one (same clutch too!) I know at some point both these jobs are in my future.
