850 Turbo 1994 will not start

Post by BLU94850 »

my car will not start. One night I came home and the car smelled kind funny. The next morning it wouldn't start! It doesn't seem to have a spark. I changed the coil and the battery and still nothing. Has this happened to anyone before? Any ideas fellas?

Yank the codes out of port A-2 and post them back. If you are not familiar, here is how to read codes:

My volvo suddely wouldn't start. After trying all the usual things ( coil, coil module, all grounds, cam position sensor, crank position sensor, main computer ), I took it to a volvo specialist independent guy who replaced the hall sensor, [whatever that is] and that fixed the problem.

According to the volvo manual, the only sensor that can cause the problem of no spark is the RPM sensor, located just below the CPS and cap and rotor mounted on the bell housing. you can get them pretty cheap on ebay. I had a similar problem of no start with spark so i read and read everything i could on what could cause the car not to start. Turns out i had to pour some oil into the cylinders to reseat the rings. But with no spark it says the RPM sensor is the only sensor that will cause the ECM not to send a spark signal to the coil which means no spark at the spark plug.

Unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of time to fix it myself, but I found out that the replaced part was actually the CPS (the hall sensor is just the generic name for that type of sensor), the previous mechanic didn't replace it. Don't know about an RPM sensor, but will check this out - any references you used are always welcome,

Thanks

RPM sensor and CPS is the same thing (at least from what I've gathered).
