S60 2.4T 2002 Drv. door crushed! Advice?

Post by skadet »

My coworker was backing out of his space, which is next to mine, and wasn't paying attention. This was a low-speed side-swipe kind of thing. Here's the result (forgive the grime, weather's pretty terrible right now):

Door does not close properly, although it will latch shut. I have not attempted the window. Mirror motor works fine.

I do intend to take it to a shop to get the work done. My questions to you are:
1) What kind of fix are we looking at here? Panel replacement? Door replacement? hammer/buff/paint?

2) Any gotchas I should be aware of?

3) (if you have an idea) general cash cost (non-insurance price)? I understand it will vary greatly, but I want to do what I can to avoid being gouged.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh, and any suggestions for shops in the Sacramento, CA area would be awesome.

I had the exact same thing happen to the rear door of my S70 a few weeks ago (also by a coworker). Door would not shut properly either if I shut the front door...long story short, I got the paint code and had a matching door sent to me from www.erievovo.com (call them, don't send them email). I exchanged things off of my door to it and the fit and color was a perfect match. Total cost $450. The coworker's insurance company sent me a check (after their adjuster took a look) for $1650. It came out ok...still need to have a pin stripe added and tint added to match the other windows. What the repair place was going to do was put a new door on, paint it and blend it in to the rest of the car...quite an expense and I would have been out the car for at least a week. My door exchange took me less than an hour.
