Brakes pads:Bendix, Wagner, OEM or others?

Post by soundmiami »

I'm new here and I an doing pads (F/R) on my 1990 and 1993 240s, (non turbo). . I've done this many, many times in my life on my cars always using whatever was on sale but these sedans are my girls' cars (which they love) and they drive them to school and back (400 miles) so price is not a consideration but performance and noise are.

This seems like a very knowledgeable group here any input? Other than the noise issue, is there really much difference brand to brand?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Like you, for many years (47), I have used whatever make of pad/shoe was available at the best price. Noise problems have always been eliminated by a liberal coating of a copper based grease on the rear of the pads.

As for wear I have always managed 40 - 50,000 miles on a set of pads regardless of how cheap they were. I would add to get that mileage that I am an advanced driver, instructor and examiner but it shows that most expensive is not necessarily best.

The oem pads gave me better brakes but were very dusty and wore very quickly. Cheapest advance auto pads squealed no matter what I did. The 'silver' pads seem to work fine.
