Re: Car went Boom! in the Mechanic's shop!

Post by ollygreengiant »

I know it has been awhile, with school, physo and my lawyer I’ve haven’t had time to post. Although these are crummy excuses:

So since things were not adding up at this one shop, I started to consult with other highly recommended competent mechanics. According to this one guy he recommended if I was going to get my head gasket done that I should at least have proof, which always seems like a good and rational approach, unlike a particular mechanic that I will not mention. He said that if the computer wasn’t working that there are other tests to determine the head gasket blown. But first he said that I would need fix my radiator, because these kinds of tests needed to be done while the cars running. I took this info into account, and stared to read up on the form to acquire more info that might explanations a blown head gasket. I wrote out a list and all the symptoms that the car had before, and I stared searching this form. I came across this post by "Walleye" “official engine stalling thread”
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... &start=210

everything started to make sense, In "Walleyes" case the car was stalling much like mine, because of the coolant temperature sensor malfunctioned. I figured this was the answer, so I ran It by the other mechanics, who all the while still had my broken baby 850. The Mechanics held to there guns and still insisted it was the head gasket. I asked them to fix my radiator and to give me tangible proof. It turns out that they were wrong and my theory was right. The coolant temperature sensor was malfunctioning, which is responsible for turning on the fan, which cools down the radiator. This meant that someone monkey left my car running on that hot, hot day unattended. Yet after all their mistakes ups they still insisted that it was a time bomb, which could be true or could be a cover.

I ended up paying cost for the parts, and 4 hours labor, oh well! I really made them work for it, and also being able to call B.S was awesome. Especially when they rant that “your car blew up”, I just hope these monkeys don’t try to pull this on a chick like my girl friend; they might have even convinced her to sell the car to them for parts.

Once again thanks everyone for your thoughts, and by the way everyone on this site rocks! :D

It's nice to get things finally settled...and have the satisfaction that you're right and some jerko's are wrong. That said, many folks who read the posts in this forum would be offended at the colorful language that you used in your descriptions. Hate to ask you to do so, but would you mind going through and editing your last post to tone it down on the "4 letter words." Much appreciated and sorry to sound like an "a$$" myself.
