SC-901 XM tuner mod?
SC-901 XM tuner mod?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to add xm radio to the SC-901? (2002 C-70 conv). I desire a completely hidden installation. No external xm radio tuner. My SC-901 has functioned well so far therefore I would just as soon not replace the hu. AM reception is about the only complaint I have with the unit. Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to MVS.
Buy the USA-Spec iPod adapter that fits into the back of your head unit (CD changer) and instead of using the iPod connection to the USA-Spec unit, use the setting for RCA jack inputs...should work a charm! You can find the USA-Spec unit (I have one in my car but using iPod) at http://www.crutchfield.com You'll need the Volvo cable that goes with the unit (sold separately...but Crutchfield caries it too). If they don't seem to have an option for your car, contact http://www.ipdusa.com and they'll help you. I know that sometimes Crutchfield says something can't be done but those of us "in the know" understand that the 901 unit has the same connection in the back as the SC-816 (mine) units and "it can" be done.
Good luck and let us know what you find and do.

MadeInJapan,
This solution would work if i were connecting an externally tuned XM receiver but will not work with the xmdirect tuner as it uses the head unit of the vehicle to tune it. The RCA connections are only audio inputs through the USA Spec adapter to the HU. Your ipod is controllable by your HU since you have an ipod specific connection between the USA Spec adapter and your Ipod. Thanks for the suggestion and quick response.
