850 Problems

Post by prienzo »

I own a 93' Volvo 850 GLT. Recently, the Check Engine light went on. I have noticed only a couple of things that have been a little odd. I would rather not bring it to Volvo because I am sure they would charge me a lot. Sometimes, when I shift from park to drive, I will feel the car shake. It almost feels as though it is going to stall. Secondly, sometimes when I start the car, it will go up to between 2000 and 2500 rpms, then it will go back to idling to just under 1. I never noticed that before. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Has your temeperature gauge been reading low lately? If so a faulty temperature sensor could give you symptoms like you describe. You really need to read the fault codes that the computer has in it which has caused the check engine light to come on.

What items of preventative maintenance have you performed?

I'll check the temperature gauge today. I just got the car completely checked by Volvo about two weeks ago. I just bought the car two months ago.

It's next to the spedometer. To the right. The needle starts at the bottom, and it swings up to the 3 oclock position when warm.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I called up Volvo to see if they would fix it for free because I just brought the car to them 2 weeks ago. They said they would. It turned out of the a vacuum line.
