The Haynes has instructions on how to make your own, but I don't think they include all of the tools (maybe all aren't really necessary?).

Thanks for adding the pictures. Wish I could see those tools in use so we would know exactly where they are placed and how they are used. No way you can take some pictures next time they are attached, is there? I understand the function of 2 of them but guess that's it (same ones that Haynes shows you how to make). That was why I asked if all were really necessary.

I will try to find the Hynes manual to see if I can make at least the tool that holds the cams in position, I assume that another tool is to keep the crankshaft from rotating.

Are the two 'butterfly nut' tools that bolt on the cylinders 1 & 5 are for removing the cam housing? simply because the cam housing is hard to remove (sticking to the head), or are used to remove the head?

those are used to remove and install the cam case, ive only used them in school on stand motors. i just remove all of the cam case nuts and gently pry at the tabs with a 3/8 allen. the cam tool is really only necessary to keep the cvvt hub and cam aligned, without cvvt you can simply turn the cam to the correct position. tighten the cam case down with cams close to being aligned and move them where they should be.

I tried to locate a lift that I could use to replace the complete engine, wich by the way cost of a used engine is the same as the spares required to repare the blown head gasket (using new tensioner & idle pulley).

Since I don't have a lift, the other option is to replace the head gasket, would you consider renting to myself the tools you have? I would send you the money you pay for them and once you get them back you return 'my deposit' and keep the rental fee

I bought a 1995 850 turbo with a dead miss on #2 cylinder. After diagnosing problem I found cracked valve . Removed cylinder head and sent to my favorite machine shop,upon receiving head back, I tried to fabricate the tools to install the top cover ( which on a Volvo holds the camshafts in place) but was not happy with the result,so I went searching on e bay and foud a kit (new) with the tool adapters plus as a GREATY bonus for me the kit included the crankshaft locking device. With the locking tool its foolproof to ibnstall the top. Of course it was 300.00 but it was a very satisfying experience.
