Rough Idle and Fuel Economy

Post by moonboot »

Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, however, I have viewed it several times in the past for helpful tips fixing my volvo problems.

I recently bought a 1998 S70 with 140,000 miles on it to get me around town. I already have a true love/hate relationship with it. There is not a day that goes by where I love it in the morning but feel like selling it at the end of the day. I have a couple questions here and maybe if I can get some things fixed I will appreciate my volvo more.

The following are my three main concerns/questions:

1 - I average only 20 mpg and most of my driving is freeway driving. Is this the acurate fuel economy for a 98 S70, and if it is not, are the any recomendations/suggestions to fix it?

2 - This car is by far the worst car I have had regarding suspension. I feel every little bumb in the road. Is this common for this model?

3 - I have a rough idle, my RPM's are steady but when idle the car vibrates vigorously (felt through the steering wheel and seats) and the car is slightly loud.

Any help, ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to love this car!

Thanks

That's low for highway. Check/replace spark plugs and wires, air filter, and run some fuel treatment thru it.

You should try an 850 ;-).

Check engine mounts.

Thanks for the info. I'll check into the engine mounts and give er a tune up with fuel treatment. Hopefully it will remedy at least some of my problems.

This is a great site/forum.
