I've had our 2004 XC-70 wagon about 6 months and have noticed that there is no washer fluid coming out when I actuate the washer lever. I can hear the pump running and I can see that the washer fluid line from the washer reservoir is cut where it runs along near the top of the reservoir.
I can not tell where the washer pump is located or how to access it. Can someone let me know please?
Thanks in advance,
Sarab

Welcome to MVS....the pump is connected to the bottom of the fluid reservoir...I believe you access it fron under the car and the wheel will have to come off and plastic piece pulled up and out of the way. There are actually 2 pumps...the one closer to the front of the car is actually for the rear of the wagon.

Thank you for your response! But it doesn't make sense to me because I see a hose coming out from the bottom of the reservoir, running up along the reservoir to the top and held into a clip and going towards the fender. And if I blow on that hose, the fluid level in the reservoir rises. Also, if it were connected to the pump, I would see fluid gushing out when someone else actuates the pump from the dash. I'll try to take a photo.

Here's the photo I just took. Any clues? You know, I mentioned that I could hear the washer pump running, but maybe it was just the wiper motors I was hearing. My basic problem is that no windshield washer fluid is spraying onto the front or rear window (yes, the reservoir is full).sobomagic wrote:Thank you for your response! If the hose is sitting there loose does anything pump out of it? If not, then there might be a clog or bad pump...if it does, I'd say it's disconnected from the rest of the hose. here is a parts diagram of the pump, tank, etc. I hope that it helps.

So I finally discovered that neither the front nor rear washer pumps are turning on when I push/pull the lever in the car. I also discovered that the severed hose I suspected is really just a vent hose for the reservoir.
Now I'm suspecting an issue getting power to the pumps, because I'm doubtful both pumps would fail together. The fuses look fine, maybe a relay is the issue? However, 2 relays going out simultaneously also seems suspicious.
I'm having a hard time determining which relay is for the washer pumps, just because the wording is vague to me. I marked them in the attached photo. Am I right?
Also, any other ideas about what might be the issue before I start testing relays???
Thanks,
Sarab

Certainly appears that that one relay controls both pumps... Go at it if you know how to test them- I have no clue.
