I have a 98 S70 with roughly 140,000 on it. Automatic transmission. Never had this problem, then wham, out of the blue, the car won't shift out of park. Fine one trip, then stuck the next. Never had any transmission issues like missed shifts or slipped shifts. Mechanically, when driving, feels solid, like there's nothing wrong with the planetary gearset, no broken cogs, missing teeth, or things like that. As far as shift logic, no gear searching. Checked the fuses to the transmission controls and they're fine. My only thought is this: since I bought the car used in March of 03, what appear to be LED's on the "Sport" and "Economy" transmission settings have never lit up. I can readily switch between "E" and "S" with no perceivable effect on the shift points. Could it be a problem with the computer module controlling the transmission?
Deadgummit. I tried so hard to find a manual in my price range when I bought this car. On a daily basis, I regret not having a manual just from a driving standpoint, but now this? I love the car, but this is upsetting at best.
98 S70 won't shift out of Park
See this link for the shifting out of park problem:

The E-S switch is supposed to change the shifting charactistics between an Economy and Sport mode (hence, E-S). If the light is not working, I'd first suspect a wiring issue.
If you do have faulty wiring, the two problems may very well be related.
