Autozone Diagnostic Tests.

Post by billofdurham »

This doesn't apply to me as the OBD11 leads don't reach across the Atlantic but I found this on another forum and wondered if anybody here had come across this:
I HAVE NO CLUE IF ITS ONLY MY LOCAL AUTOZONE IN PINOLE,CALIFORNIA OR ALL LOCATIONS BUT THEY NO LONGER PERFORM THE OBD-II TEST.INSTEAD THE GUY GAVE ME A NUMBER AND APARTMENT ADDRESS TO A PERSON WHO WOULD DO IT FOR ME FOR $10-$20.THOUGHT IT WAS A LITTLE ODD
The capitals are not mine!!

Yes, that's very odd indeed. I think this person (a lady?) should report whoever it was that told her that....sounds like a potential setup to me and I have not heard of AutoZone denying a simple scan until today (different thread, as it was on our site, but the lady was also from California) but such a proposition/invitation/suggestion wasn't mentioned in her comments.

AutoZone customers (especially if you're a lady) in California, BEWARE!

P.S....guess if it was San Francisco , this would apply to guys too.

It sounds like someone is conspiring with the autozone guy to make money off unsuspecting customers (maybe to pay off the cost of his OBD reader :? ).

In this same area (Pinole is across the bay from San Francisco) last year, someone was advertising for a while on craigslist that they would run OBD code checks and reset service/check engine lights on all models of cars for "just $25".

Yeah, I have heard that they have stopped "clearing" codes too but there is a "clear" button on the scan tool and then the next screen that comes up asks, "are you sure?" It would be easy to ask the guy at the AutoZone if you could clear them if they handed you the scan tool- seems that if it's not them that actually pushes the button, there would be no recourse with them....sort of like the underage cashier in some states having You run your beer over the scanner.

I have one of the basic reader/clear handheld units, and I think I got it off eBayfor $30 bucks tops. Worth having around if you own a slew of OBDII cars like most of us do :)

Avoids getting hustled at AutoZone.

Hi, and glad to be here.
I work part time for Autozone and AFAIK in the Baltimore Market, OBDII checks are still free. It is also true that we(Autozoners) are not allowed to clear the codes. What you can do is rent the scanner, clear your codes, and return the tool for a refund.

Yes. I own a 98 V70 AWD. I must have accidentally deleted that info from my signature and or profile. Still learning.

Cool beans...hey, what you can do is let us know of parts from AutoZone that are good on Volvo's. For instance, rumor has it that the PNP switch is good from AutoZone and much cheaper than the Volvo part.

Btw, I just spent over $100 at AutoZone today...getting ready for my transmission flush on my S70 next weekend...the price for the Mobil1 Full Synthetic ATF sure has gone up.
