92 940 t overheating
car overheated on highway recently stopped removed thermostat looked stucked closed filed with coolant but has taken more then the 10qts but none in expansion tank is this due to no thermostat and stll runs hot after awhile water pump replaced 5 months ago and seem fine no leaks or blown gasket showing is no thermostat causing overheating still and where is all the coolant?
Yes, most engines will overheat with the thermostat removed, the reason is that the coolant is circulating through the system too quickly, it does not remain in the block long enough to absorb heat efficiently and then it passes through the radiator so quickly that very little of the absorbed heat is removed. Check your oil for signs of water, sometimes when a head gasket leaks coolant passes into an oil passage so there are no external signs of a leak. also "smell" the exhaust, again a coolant leak into a cylinder if this is the case a white exhaust smoke will be created and it will often smell sweet.

loosened expansion cap and let idle about 30min no overheating problems till coolant started warming due to no thermostat seems since 940 system is pressured air must have been in system coolant level rose back in expansion tank while running drops when engine is shut off will reinstall thermostat should take care of coolant not removing heat and levels in expansion tank
