car running too well?

Post by ARaderer »

I just had the transmission in my 95 850 T replaced with a used one and also had a broken throttle body hose replaced. The car is now very very fast and the turbo boost gauge goes all the way to the right with no problem. With the amount of power the engine is now producing, should I be worried about blowing my engine or something of that sort? Should the turbo be working that hard? It feels to me like the car picked up 50+ hp....

Might be a dumb question, but thanks in advance...

should be okay as ECU will adjust and if there's too much going on, will do a fuel "cut-out" (first time it happened to me, it scare me :o ). But if you're really worried, a real boost gauge would tell you your true psi boost.

If the factory gauge goes all the way to the right, you either have a chip in your car and didn't know it, or you DO have a boost issue.
I don't think you will hurt anything but you should have it checked out, in case.....

Took the car back to the shop this morning. There was a bad vacuum control hose associated with the turbo. Everything is running fine now. Never thought I would take a car back to the shop for having too much power.....

Thanks for the input JRL and MIJ

They probably had a couple of the small hoses from the TCV (turbo control valve) reversed...
Now, you could safely have that power in your car, but it would take a good "tune" with a properly chipped or upgraded ECU. Our cars do have more potential hidden within them, but it's prudent to do it safely. Glad you got it sorted (sorry for your loss at the same time).
