New to forum and happy to find it. Need to make decision to keep or "give away" '98 xc 70 at 92,000 miles and looking for advice. After visit to Volvo this week to investigate a sudden rash of squeaks and leaks (none were there last July at 80,000 and 85,000 miles), they came up with: 1) rt propeller cv boot at front of drive shaft torn and leaking 2) leak in rack and pinion causing power steering leak and moan 3) rt strut bushings torn and leaking 4) rt motor mount "sagging" 5) heater hoses to heater core and reservoir leaking 6) new brakes and rotors (of course for 6th time in 7 years), all to the tune of $3800 plus need new tires. This from city kid chauffering?
Advice please. I don't dare sell it (not a buyer beware type person) as is. Told by unknowing but well-meaning friend that once one strut goes, the other follows, etc.
I'd love some ideas as to whether I'll be facing another $3700 every six months for the duration.
need advice -- keep or give away

As any brand vehicle nears the 100K mark a number of components start to wear out. Our cars are presently at 117K and 126K so over the last year I have systematically replaced several of the things on your list to get ready for the stretch to 200k. The only thing that does not sound right is your replacing brakes about every year.
Lastly, since this is an XC70, I assume it is AWD. Volvo AWD does not have a very good reliability history. This might be the determining factor.

cheap guy
O'k I'll take it off your hands
My 98 XC has 75K ith no recent problems. Hope mine doesn't go down the same road, so to speak. Of course Volvo dealers tend to have high markups. My work gets done by the Volvo mech after hours in his garage.
