2004 Volvo V70 Rear Door Lock Problem

Post by otis44 »

I've got a 2004 Volvo V70 2.4 n/a and have an issue with the rear door locks (both doors). The rear doors will not lock with the key (remote) or with the button on the drivers door. The child lock button on both doors is turned off and I can hear a clicking sound coming from the rear fuse panel when attempting to lock or unlock the doors. The tailgate and the front 2 doors work as they should. The fuel filler door and all other items on the car work as they should as well.

Is there a relay in the rear fuse panel that pertains to the central locking system? All fuses that I have checked are good. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

I have a 2002 V70 wiring diagram and it shows 3 relays associated with the rear door looks. One relay is common to both rear door locks (2/158 location REM) but it is also common to the tailgate lock and fuel door lock. This is the relay I would suspect is faulty but you mentioned the tailgate and fuel door are working okay so unless the wiring is different for a 2004 this relay must be working correctly.
The other two relays (2/112, 2/114) are not common to both doors, 1 relay for each door lock so I wouldn't suspect these relays either.

Is it just a problem with the doors locking, do they unlock okay with the remote or indoor button? Do you hear any sound from the locks themselves, like they are trying to lock?

Thanks for the reply, my rear wiring must be a little different. I couldn't find a relay marked 2/158 at all, and it did not have a relay for 2/112 or 2/114. It had one in 2/111 or 113 (I don't remember exactly). I need to get a wiring diagram. I am getting no inkling of trying to lock at the rear doors, my next move I suppose will be to test for power at the actuator on the doors. Thanks again.

You probably won't find anything. Check all fuses: underhood, under dash (driver's side), and in the REM (in the trunk). If you don't find any, pull the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and see if that fixes it.
