S60 2.4T 2003 need tuneup info

Post by HHB »

I have a recently acquired 2003 S60 2.4 Turbo with 67k miles. Would love to tuneup myself. I'm looking for guidance, (since there is no shop manual on how to) on Spark removal & type (big turbo pipe going across top of engine) , R & R gas filter, and location, as well as cabin filter?

That's right, I too am a newby, so thanks in advance to my new found friends. BTW, the last time I had a Volvo, it was a 1800S which I purchased new.

Sincerely,

HH

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The service points you raise are covered quite well on the VADIS discs which you can purchase on eBay.

I have found that the prices have always been lower on the UK site, more so now that the exchange rate has changed in your favour.

Actually if you search around this forum and other, you'll find all your answers. I have an 01 V70 T5a, and can only speak from my experience with this vehicle. The big turbo pipe does not have to be removed, just take out the mounting bolts that give you enough room to get to the necessary other bolts to remove the plastic cover over the plugs. Once that is removed it's pretty simple to see how to remove the plug coils. Careful with the wiring! Once those are remove (a single bolt), it's like changing the plugs on a lawn mower. 18ft pds. torque for the plugs. Some use an anti-seeze some don't. Some use grease. I didn't use any thing the only time I did it, but haven't had to take them out since then. Perhaps I'll later regret that decision, then perhaps not.

The fuel filter on mine is underneath the passenger side, about mid backseat. A little clip you push allows the tube to seperate. I though it was pretty slick, and minimal fuel dripping for me, but be ready just in case. If you have already bought the new filter, then you'll know what to look for.

The cabin filter on mine is underneath the glove box. I think only 2 torx screws and you're there. Pay attention to how the old comes out, as it is not symetrical, to be able to put the new in the same way. I'll try an attach an S80 procedure I have that worked for my car too.

Let us know how it goes and welcome to the family! You'll see in my signiture I too have lots of experience with P1800's!

Thank you all for the response. It doesn't appear hard, especially after the step by step instructions on the pollen filter removal. I'll give it a go next wk end and let you know of my success. Thanks again, HH
