CAI/Short Ram Intake on a 1998 S70 T5

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

CAI/Short Ram Intake on a 1998 S70 T5

Post by Lan506 »

What would be better for a 1998 Volvo S70 T5? Specifically, what is best set up for a HPT.

I hear a lot of people saying that you cannot really improve upon the stock air intake setup on a Volvo.

1. Stock Filter and Air Intake Set Up

or

2. K&N Filter and Stock Air Intake Set Up

or

3. Cold Air Intake

or

4. Short Ram Intake

any input is appreciated!

I personally like the stock air box with a K&N but there are some other alternatives. The biggest concern with a short CAI is that the engine heats up the air going in. www.ipdusa.com has a good set-up that blocks off that air. Also www.quickbrickmotorsports.com has a write-up on a conversion using a plastic Rubber Maid bucket as a filter holder for another design which I think would be very good (you'll have to turn your battery).
