Trunk open light
Trunk open light
I have a 2001 XC-70 and the trunk open light has been on for the last month. But the trunk is firmly closed and latched. I had to turn off my trunk light b/c it drained my battery before I realized it was staying on b/c the car "thinks" the trunk door is open. I tried oiling the latch and it moves smoothly. Do I have to replace the latch or can it be simpler than that?

Welcome to MVS.
I find very little information about that light in the materials I have. Try prying off the plastic lens cover and look at the area under the bulb itself... you might find where it's shorted to "on," even when the door is closed. I know that on my S70 there are a couple of settings for my trunk light...on all the time, off with the trunk closed as well as off all the time. Does yours have a switch like this?

I had a similar problem on my V70 -02, the rear interior light turned on during driving or when the car was parked, triggering the alarm. The switch for the light is integrated in the locking mechanism. I removed the mechanism from the door and found some corrosion in the connectors. Cleaning the connectors solved the problem. It’s about a year ago since I fixed this and have not had any problems since.
