2002 S60 Timing belt job

Post by mendezwerks »

Hi there fellas, Im mendezwerks and am new to this forum. I bought my S60 non turbo a little over a month ago. It has about 91k and am performing a timing belt service. Everything is self explanitory except for the intake cam. I belive that it is adjustable through the computer but can not seem to lock it into place. So my question is this: can I put the belt back on with the intake gear loose? Everything lines up (timing marks on both sprockets and crank), and just call it a day, or is there a special tool, or operation that I am missing in my installation process. Thanks for your help in advance to all of those who respond.

I gathered you moved the cams after the belt was off?

When I did my belt, I had timing marks all lined up prior to taking the belt off. Then the new belt went back on without cam or the crank moving.

I read somewhere if the cams are moved, there is a procedure to get the CVVT (variable valve) cam setup correctly. This cam seems to be able to assume 2 different positions. Computer activates the desired position using oil pressure. I read the CVVT is on the exhaust cam only on your car.

google "me7 CVVT" and you see the first 2 link are articles explaining how this CVVT works

Anyway, if you didn't line up the timing marks prior to taking the belt off or have moved the cams after the belt was off... I'd do a lot of research before trying to start the car. These are interference engines.

On CVVT engines, you line up the marks, go past them 90 degrees and then back (counter clockwise) to the marks before taking the belt off- learned this last night browsing another forum.
