960 wagon 1995 tensoiner pulley/timing belt

Post by shelbarnes »

The tension pulley shot through the cover and the belt came off. Does this mean the engine is shot? Or can I replace the pulley and belt, set timing and call it good?? In United States. Replaced a whole bunch of parts and not ready to send to yard.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

One of the rules on this site is that you aren't allowed to shoot the messenger.

If the belt came off when the engine was running it will have damaged the engine as the valves and pistons will have smashed into each other.

If the belt came off when the engine was stopped and no attempt has been made to start it you should be OK.
