<-----------NO thanks to you two!!!!
Ok..Now I love my 850 again. Heres why:
All the problems I was having with sputtering, weak acceleration when the boost kicked in. I blamed it on Platinum Plugs. Could be. so I bought coppers tonight due to unanamous postings leaning toward coppers.
Pulled out for a test run....Poof!
same problem.
borrowed fuel pressure gauge from a mechanic friend and had enough hose to have it inside the car. Low fuel pressure when I revved the engine.
Pulled out again for a test run, Nailed the gas pedal, and the pressure dropped waaaaaay down. PUlled the pump and noticed the HOSE that connects the Pump Outlet Nipple to the metal pipe that sticks out of the tank was 1/8 inch from sliding off and the clamp was loose. Hmmmmm.
Slid the hose back on, tightened the clamp. Test run was BLAZE-O-TRON!
That Throaty sound was BACK!! Pinned me to the seat! Eyes got big as Billiard Balls.
Oh well...we live, learn and pass it on!
Another problem solved.
EUREKA!!!! Sputtering engine weak acceleration solved !!

I swear by bosch platinum plugs. I use them in my c-70 with the high pressure turbo and run it on regular fuel (87 octane) and it runs very well.

Well it has been a week since finding the problem with the slightly Detatched fuel pump motor hose. Since then I have received the long awaited data cable for my Actron scanner. Sweet! I even reset my service light which was nagging me every time I started the car. Now for the good stuff. Since finding the problem with hose, I HAVE gotten the check engine light again. I was on the "I" and nailed the gas to pass someone.....Really Kicking! when I backed off several seconds later the Check Engine beast returns. Read codes under the hood and was getting missfire codes. 5-4-2 etc... Ok...I can live with those. Cleared the codes all is good. They have not returned. I haven't had any codes to deal with since getting the Data Cable but i did connect it to get LIVE images of whats was going on with all the PID (Proportional Integral Derrivative) loops. You can see the progress of each O2 sensor, TPS, RPM, just about anything the ECU is sending out can be monitored. OBD scanners should come as Standard equipment for Volvos. I recommend anyone who owns a Volvo to get an OBD scanner and keep it in the car at all times!!
It definately cuts out alot of guess work. The good thing is, No more O2 sensor codes, no more Burning Rich codes, and best thing of all the car has more power than it had when I 1st bought it. At least for now. I hate that i have to put "Dog Year" life on it by commuting such a distance daily, but unfortunately some of us have to work in areas where the opportunities are more abundant, but don't want to move to the area. Volvo was the choice for their reputation in High mileage . I didn't realize the Maintenance would take me back to school! Man oh Man!
I guess with help of these boards we can all become Volvo mechanics when we retire and get bored.
