Volvo v70 GLT -98

Post by KungKlut »

Hello everyone and greetings from Sweden :)
Very cool to find an american volvo forum and see what you all think of our swedish cars.

Yesterday I bought a very nice and well preserved V70 GLT (170hp) from -98. I love it, and its my 5th car (ive only owned volvos)

Here's my list of cars ive had

1987 Volvo 240 GL
1994 Volvo 945 GL
1995 Volvo 855 2,5 SE (140hp)
1995 Volvo 850 2,5 SE (140hp)
1997 Volvo S40 2,0T (160hp)

In sweden we have many many volvos on the second hand market.

Looking forward to great volvo discussions! :D

Welcome, KungKlut. Are there financial penalties for operating an older car in Sweden? Are the inspections rigorous?

hi Matthew. No, there is no penalty what so ever to drive an older car. Even to this day, the most common car on the swedish roads, according to the statistics, is the Volvo 240. And this is 16 years after the last 240 was built! So theres alot of old volvos on the roads.
But our government is slowly working towards us only driving newer cars, and talk about banning all gasoline cars have surfaced. I dont know if this will happen, but it would be a sad day. If you plan on buying a new "evironment-car", you can recieve a discount of about $1500 from the government.

The inspections of old cars are the same as new ones, theres no special inspection.

Thanks for moving my thread, I wasn't aware i was posting in the wrong section. :)

^^^ Interesting. I thought Sweden would be on the cutting edge of pushing motorists to modernize their cars for environmental and safety reasons. My dad worked for John Deere (Construction - the yellow tractors), and Sweden always made Deere make special safety modifications to their tractors to comply with Swedish law. That was in the 1970s and, naturally, only for machines imported to your country.
