have 104000 miles on it. do i need to have the transmission fluid changed on it?

Yes...you should have flushed it before now. Don't listen to the Volvo company line that it never needs replacing because it's a closed system. Once you begin doing this, for proper transmission maintenance, do it every 30 to 35K miles.
