so i just checked for a vacuum leak around the intake manifold by spraying intake cleaner, no change in idle speed.

besides listening and looking, any other suggestions on chasing down a potential vacuum leak?

Sometime you can hear them to, but I never strongly doubt you have a vacuum leak issue. Unless it's a very major one (like leaving the 1/2" vacuum line completely off) I don't see a check engine light coming on without driving at least a few (10-15) miles. Typically a vacuum leak will cause an adaptation out of range code, which takes a bit to get set.

Signal too low / high codes typically indicate a wiring fault, and given the number of different codes and the apparent instantaneous nature of them being set makes me about 99% certain you have a wiring fault somehow. Unfortinunetly, finding it's going to be a pain. Based on the codes, I would suspect a short to ground, likely where the harness rubbed on something and wore through. My suspicion would be it's somewhere in the main harness between the back of the trans and the firewall - ie where it goes over the top of the trans than up along the driver's fender liner. The O2 sensor, evap valves and cam position / VVT solenoid all branch off from the main harness roughly between the top of the trans & rear of the engine, so I would think it's further up than that.

i agree.

i do not have a short between any of the signal lines (cam position sensor, evap valve, turbo boost valve) and ground, at least with the key off.

i will check for shorts to ground in these signal lines while the engine is running.

My guess would be it's highly intermittent and you woln't see it by looking for continuity to ground. What I would try doing is to visually inspect as much of the harness as possible, probably by opening the plastic tray up and checking all of the wires. Not easy, and more than likely you will not actually see anything.

I actually just realized something.... the area of harness you need to be interested in is from the trans over to the passenger fender / computer box, not from there to the driver fender and fusebox as I was originally thinking. Duh.

I would start by removing the computers and box, and check where the wiring goes into the computer connectors. Maybe you have a rat's nest or something in that wiring space and that's your ground issue.

Another thing to try would be to put a different computer in and see if you got codes set with that one as well. I know it's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but there's some chance the problem is internal to the ECM itself.

so don't laugh, here is my list,

P0445
P0448
P0245
P0037
P0031
P1332
P0136
P1655

i did search and found a little. some brief insight and direction would be much appreciated.

on the bright side, the p1171 that has plagued me for better than a year is gone.
so, i am still battling these codes. i have checked everything, so i think with no luck.

the codes appear immediately upon the first start of the engine after clearing. could it be shorted pins on the ecm? has anybody experienced this issue?
