The 240 had been sitting for months with old gas. Replaced fuel pump, plugs, and drained tank. Car cranked and ran smooth at first. It progressively started running rough and finally quit ideling. Hard to crank and keep running. Runs fine at 70 mph but goes dead if you let up on accel. Now it wont crank. Fuel floods cylinders and locks engine. Have to remove plugs, purge cylinders to tuen over. Will manage to crank but smokes like a house fire. This car has always run perfect till now. It only has 100K miles and was taken care of by previous owner.
I finally isolated the proglem. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. I will also replace the fuel pump relay. I was able to read various cases involving 240 on this sight and zero in on the problem. I know nothing about Volvos but this sight has helped me get educated. I am looking forward to driving the Volvo for many more miles.
