850 Battery dies

Post by Billm261 »

My 96 850 battery dies after a day or two. I unplugged the fuse for the door locks as my meter indicated a heavy draw. I also switched the dome lights off as if they were left on the battery would die without the lights actually being on.

Questions:
Anyone have a similar problem?

Are the remote key fob module and door locking module one in the same?

Is there a module that controls the dome lights?

Where are these modules located?

Thank you!

Did you ever figure this problem out? I've got similar problem to the point where it drained my battery completely dead to the point that it won't even keep my clock illuminated. I know I'm getting a some sort of a drain from my system when it is off, but I'd like a clue as to where to start looking.
Thanks.

My wife's 1995 850 has dead battery every 2 weeks. I caught the engine fan on in the middle of the night, hours after the car was last driven. The dealer here in Rochester, NY has no clue why it is turning on. If you come up with a solution, and you find the problem is the same, send me some info.

Thanks

I did end up solving my problem. I had to buy a new battery which I then used to test all of my fuse terminals to see if I could locate the draw. With the ingnition off, pull a fuse and plug each probe of a multimeter into the terminal. When you find one with a draw go ahead and test all of the circuits that are on that fuse. My draw ended up coming from my glove box light not going off with it shut. When I pulled the bulb, my draw dropped from 6-7 amps to 1.5-2. That's normal to run the clock and the auto door locks, etc. After that, I was good to go. I went away for a week and my car cranked right up. It used to die after three idle days.

Hope fully you can isolate the fan circuit. I would also check the relays. The fan motor may be on a temperature relay but I don't know. Good luck.

If not the glove box light check the trunk light. My trunk needs to be latched to shut the light off.
