how high should the rpms go b4 the trannsmission shifts? does it differ in higher gears or lower gears...i also noticed that the jerk is coming back, a little stronger now. sometimes when i accelerate from a stop and release b4 it switches gears, i can hear it reving at around 2-2.5 rmps b4 i brake. Other times it shifts pretty well (not perfect but better). i'm sure this car has only been flushed the one time that i did it...would another flush be wise or a waste of time?
Also, i drove my parents chevy venture and i really couldn't pinpoint when the gears shifted...not like i can in the volvo. I haven't driven another volvo, but i'm sure they don't drive that rough as a whole...is mine just on it's last legs (even tho the volvo dealer said that volvos hardly ever have tranny failure)?

Make sure your transmission fluid level is correct- it should be checked hot (after 20-30 minutes of driving) and after going through each gear for 10 or more seconds and then stopping at the P (park) position with the car still running. Also, on your model, I believe you're suppose use the JWS-3309 fluid. If you used Dexron or Mercon you would end up with this type of behavior out of your transmission (it it is suppose to take the special fluid), so check your owner's manual to be sure. If you used the correct fluid, low or high levels will cause erratic behavior, and no, it's not suppose to be pumping or jerking as it shifts.

ok...i did use the correct fluid and it is at the right level, now i took it to an AT specialist and he test drove it and said he didnt find anything wrong...he also said that since its an older model that the seals werent lubricated or sealing well enuf until the car warmed up. this made sense because the erractic shifting only happens when the engine is cold. I'm just worried cuz if its having difficulty shifting when cold or if the seals arent sealing properly right away, then i'm sure its gonna get worse. what can i do to help offset this?
