interior lighting problem

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

interior lighting problem

Post by gundalow »

I have a 99 S80. The courtesy light will not come on with either the door opening, or the manual button. The two little map lights do work via the buttons.

I opened the light housing, and the two bulbs look fine (filiments are intact). I can also see that the small green pilot light in the switch well is lit. I checked the interior fuse, and it is fine.

I called two dealerships, and got two differnet answers:

One said it is a relay, but can't ell me which one and where it is.

The other said it is one of three modules.

First, reset the UEM. To do this, get the key, and lock and unlock your driver's door three (3) times.

I tried it...no go.

What's strange is that all of the other courtesy lights (under dash and rear seat) work fine with the door or key activation. They also fade out as they should. It's just the "main" light, in the cabin, that won't come on either by the switch, or the door/key.

I have been able to determine that there isn't power getting to the two "main" courtesy lights, however there is power to the two "map" lights in the same housing????
