I have a 2004 S60 2.4L with 75,000 miles (manual transmission). Last year, I ran into a problem (around 65,000) where the car began to stall while I rolled to a stop (stopsigns, stoplights, etc.) while in neutral gear. I brought it to the Volvo dealer, who wanted 600 bucks to change the oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs. I ended up doing all that myself, with no resolution to the problem. Finally, I changed the MAF sensor and the problem went away. Then in August, I got a letter from Volvo about incorrect error codes due to malfunctioning tests on the O2 sensor and MAF sensor (I think it was something about a P46 extended warranty?). I remember them stating they would update the software if the check engine light came on and the correct error codes were diagnosed.
Here's my question: If the same symptoms have now returned (stalling while rolling, rough idle, jerky acceleration), would it be due to this software problem? I have a hard time accepting that the MAF sensor is broken again, but I would rather pay $80 and replace it again than bring it to the dealer and have to pay more than that just for the diagnostic check. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Greg

If your CEL is on then by all means get the software upgrade. If not and you see no issue, keep driving and wait until it happens. Do you get any codes now? Codes are often set even if a CEL is not showing.

Sorry for the delay, but here's the update...
Went to the Volvo dealer with the extended warranty in hand. They were able to find a service code that matched up with the warranty, so I got a software update at no charge. The problem went away and has never recurred. The car actually runs better now than when I bought it (used).
