A design defect in the Electronic Throttle Module on 1999 to 2002 Volvo vehicles that causes hesitation, surging, stalling and finally limp home has been solved. XeMODeX Inc. has released a remanufacturing service that removes the part that wears out in 30,000 to 100,000 miles and replaces it with technology that has no contacting parts to wear out. The replacement carries a lifetime warranty for the Digital Angle Sensor. Although Volvo Cars North America (VCNA) extended the warranty to 10-years or 200,000-miles the cars delivered starting with the 1999 model year are now beyond VCNA support. The XeMODeX cost is similar to the Volvo non-warranty cost but permanently fixes the egregious design and the work can be done by independent garages or even by a DIY owner.
For reasons beyond me, the XeMODeX is not available in continental Europe but can be sold in the rest of the world.

Congrats to Don Wilson teaming up with XeMODeX.
Don wins because he has an engineering company to work with to sell a solution to a problem he's been working on for years.
XeMODeX wins because they get the public face of the fight for "ETM Rights" to help them bridge the gap between their product and actual Volvo owners.
We win because we get a product that solves the ETM problem that is backed by these two parties.
Volvo loses because they left hundreds of thousands of owners in the cold on a SAFETY ISSUE. There are bigger paradoxes in the world, but not in the automotive world. See my post in the Opinion section about my feelings on Volvo and how they handled the ETM disaster.
I love Volvo cars, but I'm anything but an apologist for the company. This was a huge black eye for them and I have a feeling this will come back to bite them via large media coverage one day.
Sorry for the rant. I'll get back on message by saying I look forward to reading about happy 1999-2001 model year Volvo owners who get this fix.
