Have you checked your injectors? The car doesn't know when you are turning a corner...it's all relative to throttle position. If your fuel pressure is good, visually check them and replace the o-rings. Ya never know.

I have had the same problem with my 1998 s70 glt 135k
I finally got rid of the k&r air filter the oil in the filter was fouling the mass air valve. I did try everthing else to stop the stall you have described until I put a regular dry air filter in.

So i noticed that there was a small amount of water around the dipstick and now i have smoke coming out of the dipstick while the car is running. And on friday the car ran at about 400 rpm for thirty seconds and stalled with some black smoke and strong smell. Besides that i noticed my purge valve was ticking after the car warmed up, and the only other thing i havent really looked at was anything underneath the battery (ie air pump, charcoal canister) because i didnt no if it could make that much of an impact. Anything anyone can say for me to check please put it on here. Thanks for any help

You don't have a PCV valve per se. You have a PCV system. The main component is the oil trap that lives under the intake manifold and then there are numerous lines and hoses.

Search PCV through the database and there are a number of threads. FCP Groton also has some good pictures of the components on their website.

Just had mine checked out -- it was the MAF for me in a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT with 140k miles on it.

To help folks identify the issue, I was stalling when decelerating coming to a stop, and even when coasting in neutral coming to a stop. Occasional stalling when idling as well. It wasn't happening all the time, but sometimes I would turn the car on and feel it shuddering a little, and know exactly what was coming next.

Years late to this poll, but for the sake of others who might be looking for answers here, I found mine to be, oddly enough, the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT). Sensor itself perhaps, but more likely, the electrical connection to the sensor. These go bad over time and cause strange engine surges and stalling. For me, it was:
- 1998 V70 NA with 110K: MAF was bad, stalling engine. New Bosch MAF fixed it.
- Same 1998 V70 at 115K: bad ECT: new ECT fixed it.

On my '95 854T at 220-230,000 miles, stalling was caused by a bad MAF and then a bad TPS a few thousand miles later.
