99 S80 T6 will not start

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 S80 T6 will not start

Post by stratman3 »

I went out for dinner with my wife, car drove fine utill at a stop light it suddently shut off. I will turn all day long but will not start. I confused it showed no symptoms prior to this. I checked the fuel pump fuse, it was fine. I pressed the valve at the end of the fuel rail and gas squirted out.

Ok I tested a few things, all fuses, relays, fuel pump. Now the ones that did not look so good were the coil packs. All look craked, kinda even rusty looking toward the bottom, the boots don't even pop. Also the spark coming from them was weak it was not a constant tick tick spark, just like hardly any. I'm wanting to go buy and change all of them but at the same time what if the car won't start? Why heck did I sell my faithfull 850 turbo, Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I feel your pain, but I think you've pinpointed your problem.
You might try a junk yard with an S80 for these- I know they aren't cheap.

I ordered a whole new set of coil packs last night. They should be here Tue at noon. I will post an update. Also, I had posted an oil sep(flame trap) problem. It turns out the hose that goes on top of the oil sep was mysteriously off after my last trip to The Volvo store in Winter Park, wish is one of the jobs they wanted to do, before they would work on the ETM again. I will have Cech Bros inspect my car before trying the dealer again. It seems they try to blame the problem on other things to justify changing the ETM.

Have you changed the spark plugs yet? Grounds good in the engine compartment? Battery charged up?

Changed all six coil packs and also went ahead and changed the fuel filter. Car will not start. It just strange how it just quit while sitting at a stop light with no prior symptoms, exept for the surging that came back after the dealer sofware upgrade. The code reader is not picking up any codes. The only other thing I can remember from the info screen was something about alarm needed service. Could there be an electronic shut off from the alarm? I don't have the keyless remote just the key.

I'm thinking it's the ETM.

Is there a way to know for sure? I think I'm gonna have it towed to Cech brothers, if they confirm the ETM is the problem, the volvo store is gonna hear it from me.

You would have to read the specific Volvo codes for the ETM.
Good luck and let us know what it was.
