Transmission issues causing overheating

Post by volvonewbie18 »

i was wondering if transmission issues can contribute to overheating problems...also, i noticed that my heater stopped working. It blows out cool air instead of hot air which presents a problem while i'm trying to get the thermostat delivered. i used to be able to turn the heater on and it would keep me from overheating. Now it seems that it almost contributes to the problem

In theory transmission issues can exacerbate overheating but it depends on the issues. If the transmission is holding lower gears too long then the engine will start to run hotter as it is revving higher.

aha...as i suspected. is it true that once a transmission is tinkered with that its as good as dead? like they're so intricate that once repaired they're more likely to fail again.

It depends on who does the "tinkering".

My '91 960 had transmission problems and was repaired by a transmission specialist who was recommended by my local Volvo dealer. It certainly didn't die as I did another 40,000+ miles and the person who bought it from me did 30,000+ miles before he sold it.
