Just bought a 1998 V70 cross country AWD.The owner says it got a code #2 solenoid is bad.I towed the car home. Did a tune up,runs great, drove it and shifts fine. He said once it gets hot the trans will slip and quit pulling.I have not driven it any distance.
I'm going to do the flush this weekend.
My question is, If the #2 solenoid is bad,the trans would not shift,or am I wrong?
Any other thing anyone may suggest?
The fluid is dark, and overfilled?
Thanks.

I would definitely try the tranny flush, my S40 was slipping for the last 10,000 miles from 2-3 and I took it to the dealer and got a flush. It now shift better than it ever did. They charged me 250 for the flush but the S40 takes synthetic fluid not sure what yours takes.

His takes Dexron or equivalent. If you're not sure, Castrol's Dex/Merc is a good alternative. If you want to change to synthetic, Mobil1 Synthetic ATF is a great alternative (what I run in my S70).

I'm a big fan of mobil 1. Our Family has been the Mobil distributor for over 35 years, and now we are Sunoco, since the merger of Exxon and Mobil.
I guess I'll try the flush, and see if the #2 solenoid error code goes away. Is there any way to pull the code without a scan tool or removing it?

I say that's a great choice in the way to proceed with this. No way to pull the codes without a scan tool. If you remove it, there's no way to figure out if this is it either unless a replacement takes care of the code.

What does the #2 solenoid do for this model trans? The trans shifts fine. I've not driven it but a short distance.
