2001 V70XC

Post by JohnR »

I recently purchased this XC with 160,00km appears to be in good running shape, etc. Question: When stopped, in Drive, with foot brake holding car stopped at an intersection, for example, does the transmission disengage while the brake light is on? It seems to me that there is a momentary hesitation if I start immediately the light turns green. The transmission behaves well-enough otherwise -- but this is just an observation. Normally there is a constant pressure by the torque converter with a stall speed enough to roll the car forward as soon as the brake pedal is released. But transmission 'feels' different -- just wondering if there is a new technology at work.
Thanks!

JohnR, originally, the 2001 models had a "stop-neutral" feature built into the transmission computer that put the car into neutral when you came to a stop. The consensus was that this caused early transmission failures in that model year. Go to the dealer and have your TCU upgraded to remove this.

Thank you for that information. I have seen the warranty history and this car has had the TCU upgrade. So this request is different from the warranty upgrade, right? A separate request I must make of them?

Yes, I believe so.
Good luck and let us know if that was it or not.
