A while back I posted about a thumping noise after replacing the struts. I took out the passenger side where the noise came from and found a defective "new" sturt. Replaced it and noise gone!
Now.....after putting it back together a noise has appeared in the steering. When I turn the wheel it sounds like a faint "bump, bump, bump" as I turn the wheel. And possibly a little drag on something int he steering. I checked the fluid level and it's okay. I also checked the bearings at the top of the struts and they are good. The noise and feeling definitely were not there before I took apart the passenger side to replace the defective strut.
Any ideas of what it could be? I'm thinking that I will have to disconnect both tie rods so I can turn each wheel independently and turn the rack to try to determine in which of the 3 the problem is. Any suggestions that will help to save me this step would be appreciated.

It may be something as simple as balancing the wheels. My '89 740 had a sort of bumping/jittering problem in the steering wheel, so I got my wheels balanced for free at the place I bought my tires and the bumping/jittering stopped.
