Hi there, I just pass by this car parked and it had a "for sale" sign , then came into Craigslist and there is an ad about it, and that's what it reads (my subject)... but not much more, so I was wondering if some one knows exactly what should I look for in order to prove this is really what this person claims to be saling in the ad, i know I should start looking at the VIN number etc... but for example, what rims are the original for this years/model/trim/market etc... should it have leather seats and air conditioning? B23E engine? M46 gearbox? Turbo? Any different suspension equipment? sun roof?
also i would like to make this car as original as possible and get collector status for it, so i need the original characteristics when they came out to the market (Canada in this case).
Can i go to the dealer and ask them for some manual, info or so?
thanks ya all for reading and helping.

Good to hear from you again.
This is a link to the basic US spec sheet for the 242GLT:
https://www.customers.volvocars.com/own ... sedan.html.
Unfortunately it doesn't say that it is also for the Canadian market and doesn't go into detail about the rims. Upholstery was velour but there is no mention of air conditioning.
The Canadian version was powered by the B23E engine, Bosch K-Jetronic high pressure continuous fuel injection, without a turbo and could have either manual M46, or auto BW55 or AW70 gearbox. The M46 was a four speed + overdrive, the BW55 was a three speed and the AW70 was a three speed + overdrive.
There's a start to your research. I don't think a Volvo dealer will still have spec sheets for a car of this age but there is no harm in asking! Good luck.
Bill.

Hi Bill, nice to see you again for sure, thanks lots for the info.
Now I find a couple differences between this website you referred me to and what I've read along this quest. But I think its essentially because of the two markets (Canada/USA).
mainly on the engine, and i think maybe the USA got the B21F, am I correct? I read the B21E for Canada had a compression ratio round 10:1 and would go near to 136 HP at its best, this disagree with the USA telling ratio is 9.3:1 and hp is 98 @5000 rpm... maybe i just misinterpreted something?
Another question and this is more about been cautious, are the B23E and B23F interference engines? meaning if i ever loose the timing belt i would create a disastrous mess inside my head cylinder?
the wheels seams to be the "Virgo alloy wheels" that Jack mentioned on his email, since I saw them on the car just didn't know the name. I will check out the OVT site later to double check the info.
Also in my yahoo Volvo group I got some more info telling the seat upholstery is some better class of cotton ("Velour Upholstery")and the seats have different (more) curves ("Adjustable front bucket seats").
Little by little putting together the picture, and I like it! Its just a matter of how do I make my self to his price or him more to my needs, all around negotiation including my wife and kid in the picture. 'Cuz been a two doors is not really family wise made.
Well Bill there is lots to tell about my older '83 240 DL, I still have it and is going well, still with some carb issues, but i keep tickling here and there trying to get the best possible mileage of that lovely car. But this is another topic, so I will write more about it in a new post, oki?
thanks so much... appreciate your help guys.

thanks lots bill,
now, how do you explain those transmission final drive ratios?
0.00:1 ?? meaning for every 0 turns in the transmission the wheels move one? LOLOL sounds like there is no need for the transmission? I know I am missing something one more time, and I know one ore time you will have the correct answer,
appreciate lots all your help, I wonder how you manage to answer every one in here, awesome work Bill.

Well the way it looks its a pretty nice setup for a stock Volvo, isn't it? Just missing some turbo fun I might be able to get later.
Thanks thousandth time now, and consider this thread close, I am 100% satisfied.
