i need to replace the thermostat in my 740. i was wondering which one i need (there are different temperatures). i have a 1991, non-turbo, automatic, 8-valve, 740.

Earlier, it was rather common to change thermostate depening on winter or summer. I always use the higer 91 C thermostate, all year around, no problems at all. If you are driving in a climate with cold winters, the 91 C is really giving much more heat in the cabin and it is OK for the summers we have in Europe, Canada and nothern states of America. I would guess that if the car is normally driven in desert area in southern US or in Asia, Africa, it would be better to use the 87 C thermostate.
